Transcript

In this episode on the Scent of Light I will speak on Security. I read an article in the July 2019 issue of the Sonoma County Gazette by the publisher Vesta Copestakes on preparing for natural disasters, especially wildfires since our community is still rebuilding structures and lives after the damage from the Firestorm of October 2017 that swept through Santa Rosa and the county. Vesta includes a list of items to include in your emergency bag to accompany you in such times. My wife and I just replenished our batteries for the flashlights and radio with extras placed in our bag.

Don't forget to prepare dealing with your mind during such an event, as the mind will be exposed to many confusing sights, sounds, smells, and opinions, much like a psychedelic experience. It is important to take time out for yourself everyday for meditation or contemplation to become aware of thought and no thought, emotion and no emotion, sensation and no sensation. Even if we have all the material items in place for an emergency, it still takes our mind to grasp the situation as best as possible and act with discernment and intuitive guidance as the situation unfolds.

How can you discern an intuitive feeling to trust if you do not spend the time to explore your mind? If we reflect on our lives we surely find experiences in the past where we or someone else followed their gut feeling and they reaped the benefit of that decision. We say gut feeling, but does intuition always originate in our gut? Sometimes hairs raise on my arms or on my back to indicate a special guidance is being received, and I begin to be extra aware of my environment and signs I may receive to indicate a direction or type of action to take.

The psychologist Carl Jung introduced the term synchronicity for experiencing meaningful coincidences. What makes the coincidence meaningful is our attention to sensory details as we remember details in similar past experiences as well as hold to our guiding principles in life and goals we have set. There occurs a collapse in time where the past and future are brought into the present moment, and we know the decision to make is in harmony with our life's purpose.

My mentor Dr. William Hermanns demonstrated to me how he would pray to a higher power aligned with his True Self to ask for signs of guidance for accomplishing a mission. He liked to ask for three signs to make sure he was not engaging in wishful thinking. Sure enough the signs would be spotted, for we had set our mind to be in active mode to recognize the signs. The asking for signs of guidance was one part of our preparation of our mind, that also included meditation, reflection, and study of literature for insights of others on discernment. This daily preparation is what is called for so one can live in a secure state of mind no matter what befall us, for we have come to intimately know an essential state within us that is eternal and unchangeable.

In the last episode I sang Intuition's Joy and concluded the song with this stanza about our relationship to creating and creation, that imparts to me security:

Be still and know
We're in the flow
Of Love to grow
From seeds we sow
